Bachlorette Party Weekend!

This past weekend I attended a Bachelorette party in San Francisco and Napa Valley for Derek's sister, Courtney. Never having been to California before, I was very excited to go!!! We started off in San Francisco for one night and left the next day for Napa. Even though I was only in San Fran for that short period of time, I think I could live there someday - ha! No, not really, but it did seem like an "Amy" kind of city. Laid back yet sophisticated, charming yet rugged, cute yet sexy...wait, am I describing Derek again?!


Napa Valley was an experience as well. Good food, good WINE and good company!! I didn't think it would be possible to get tired of drinking fine wine, but by the end of day two I was literally pooped! No pun intended.... ;) My highlights from Napa would be the blending seminar we attended at Franciscan winery and the private dining experience we had at Bayleaf restaurant.

Who knew that blending wine was such an art?! I definitely have more of an appreciation for the "blends" now.... If I ever made one professionally I think I would call it "Amy's Merlot Franc"... only because I love Merlot and when the word "franc" is added to the end, I think it just gives it a special touch, no? ha!


To the left is our visit to Bayleaf restaurant. Ladies in black! Yowzers!!! The owner of the restaurant actually came out to meet us after our dinner and then introduced us to the chef. The chef then proceeded to give us all his business card with his hand written personal phone number -ha! Foreign men....such flirts! But really, who can resist such fine ladies?!

A great California trip all in all! Next time, I'm taking my man with me!!!

Movies & Musicals

I finally saw the movie 'Mama Mia!' last night with some girlfriends. While the story line was so-so, the fact that it was a musical gave it a thumbs down in my opinion. While I can appreciate the artistic nature of musicals, they kind of just make me cringe at the same time. Who breaks out in song in the real world?!? Who??? It's so unrealistic! And super cheesy! And annoying! Ugh..

I was actually excited to see this movie though because I really like Pierce Brosnan. He's quite pretty to watch on-screen :) However, he appeared to be physically pained choking out lyrics of the Abba songs....he actually became less and less attractive to me as the movie went on. Gentlemen, let this be a lesson learned - if you are naturally good-looking, don't ruin it by singing and dancing to the beats of Abba...

Men and their cars....

I was out having dinner at Cheeky Monk the other night with my boyfriend and some of his work collegues. The conversation was fun and lively until the topic of vehicles came up. There was a young gentlemen there (under 40) who was talking about purchasing a porsche. Are you kidding me?!? A Porsche??? At his age?! That's fine if you are over 40 and buy one.... society accepts this. It's almost expected for middle-aged men to have a cutesy sportscar. But when you are in your 30's, male and drive a porsche, I'm sorry, but it just screams out "I need attention!", "Look how cool I am!", and "Yeah, that's right, I'm better than all the rest of you". No? Am I wrong here? I don't want to come across sounding jealous because I certainly am not! I just think porsche drivers should be limited to older distinguished gentlemen. Men who have lived a fair portion of their life and put their time in the office for a minimum of 20 years.

If and/or when I ever see this guy cruising the streets of Denver in his brand new porsche, I'm going to roll my eyes, sigh, and call him a materialistic tool ;)
